Arizona-based instructor Tom Sylvester attended the WinterCamp seminar held recently at the National Ving Tsun Organization (NVTO) headquarters in Austin, Texas. During the 3-day event, Tom attended a 6-hour instructor training course on Friday, followed by the 8-hour general seminar which took place on Saturday and Sunday.

During the course of the seminar, the nearly 40 students and instructors received instruction and correction from Dai-Sifu Webb and senior members of the NVTO team which included Sifu Robert Jacquet (4th degree), Sifu Kenny Felton (4th degree), and Sifu Robert George (4th degree). The event was typical for one of the big seminars at the NVTO HQ, well-attended and enjoyed by all. For those advanced practitioners working towards instructor ranks, the bulk of Sunday consisted of testing hands-on with several senior instructors. All elements of their training were put to the test including forms, chi-sau, and fighting ability.

Fall 2012 Seminar with Master Webb

Dai-Sifu Jeff Webb (6th degree), leader of the National Ving Tsun Organization (NVTO), was in town recently to teach a 3-day seminar at Arizona Ving Tsun. Accompanying Master Webb was Sifu Harry Lundell (3rd degree), from the Austin, Texas school.

Friday morning prior to the seminar, Dai-Sifu Webb and Sifu Lundell had breakfast with longtime friend and Wing Chun colleague, Prof. Sifu Joy Chaudhuri. On Friday afternoon and on Saturday, Sifu Steve Frerichs (3rd degree) and the students of Ving Tsun Arizona were treated to in-depth instruction on lat-sau fighting techniques. As Master Webb explained, "The key to Ving Tsun fighting lies in combining the softness and yielding of the chi-sau training with the realism and aggressiveness of the lat-sau. For effective Ving Tsun fighting skills, you can't have one without the other."
